small story

During one of my visits to a elementary school I over heard one of the students explain to her teacher how she does not want to ride the bus anymore. The teacher asked her why and she shyed away at first but the teacher brought her outside of class to talk to her. The little 3rd grade, who is sweet as can be, told her teacher that 1st graders where tormenting her on the bus. They where calling her "bad" names, telling her she looks like a baby and she should not be in school. The teacher had her fill out a sheet that explains her side of the story and give it to the Principal so he can review it. Then he will talk to the other children and get their side of the story and that is that.

I thought about that situation and how it was handled and you know it is just not fair. The poor girl still has to go on the bus that day and now they other children will know she tattled. I just think that more options need to be available for children. The teacher did e-mail the girls mother and told her what is happening on the bus, but did this really solve the problem? I do not think so.
